Are you a Young Person?

Want to know more about unhealthy and risky relationships? Click the following link for the AWARE young persons leaflet (pdf).

  • Are you getting attention from someone older?
  • Is this person buying you presents, alcohol, drugs?
  • Do they make you feel special?
  • Is your relationship becoming serious?
  • Are you having sex or messing around with them?
  • Have you been asked to keep your relationship a secret?

This sounds romantic but it isn't... These are some of the things perpetrators/adults do to groom and sexually exploit young people

A sexually exploitative relationship is difficult to describe but the definition below could help:
'Some one taking advantage of you sexually, for their own benefit. This could be through threats, bribes, violence, humiliation, or by telling you that they love you, they will have the power to get you to do sexual things for their own, or other people's benefit or enjoyment (including: touching or kissing private parts, sex, taking sexual photos)'

(As defined by the Young Women's Group, New Horizons: 2008 The Nia Project & The Children's Society)
