Dont suffer in silence from the bullies...
23rd Feb 2010
Bullying and abusive behaviour is not acceptable in any social environment and even the government cant avoid the issue as seen in the latest news headlines this week.
Victims of bullying can see their confidence and self esteem drop and sometimes young people will see running away as the only option to get away from the bullies to a place they cant be found. One in nine young people under the age of sixteen run away every year in the UK usually because of abusive or bullying behaviour in the home. Running is not a permanent solution though and will cause those around the young person stress and worry.
So who can you turn to for help?
Well here at the Relationships Centre we have a project called Talk dont Walk which works with young people who need help and advice to overcome difficult situations such as bullying and prevent them from running away. Our friendly team will invite you in to our office where you are able to tell us in more depth what is causing you concern. We will then talk you through our support programme and arrange your next session and look at an action plan of support.
Dont struggle on your own to deal with relationship problems. If you dont feel confident talking to your family, friends or teachers then call us in confidence on 01925 246910 and speak to one of our team.
Over the next few months Talk dont Walk will be coming into schools and delivering awareness raising assemblies so keep a look out for us!
Young People should expect respect in their relationships...
19th Feb 2010
The Relationships Centre has been offering support to Young People and Vulnerable Adults for over 10 years now, but with the recent media drive from the Government and the NSPCC, to raise awareness of domestic abuse in teenage relationships, we feel it is important to alert the young people of Cheshire to the support we offer for victims of domestic violence as well as potential perpetrators.
We have successfully secured funding for 3 years for a Children in Need project which aims to support 13 - 19 year olds who have begun to display abusive behaviour to those close to them. Our dedicated team member Stephen Leach, has already begun work within local schools to raise awareness of unhealthy attitudes towards relationships. For those who are referred to the project, support is offered on a one-to-one basis covering many topics including conflict resolution.
In Warrington and St Helen's, we have a team of dedicated Independent Domestic Violence Advocates who support victims of domestic abuse throughout the prosecution process as well as providing them with essential safety advice. The IDVA's work closely with the clients as well as other agencies to ensure all needs are met and ultimately making the legal process, a less daunting experience.
Support is also offered to clients in the form of Positive You courses which helps to rebuild the self-esteem so many clients lose during their unhealthy relationships as well educating them around essential life skills they will need for a successful independent future.
Any of our clients are also able to access our counselling service. We have a team of experienced volunteer counsellors who provide regular support sessions at our Warrington and Halton offices.
