St Helens IDVA service links in with Police for World Cup
21st May 2010
St Helens IDVA and Merseyside Police are working collaboratively towards tackling domestic abuse during the World Cup period. Police reported in 2006 that there was a 31% increase in DV on England’s World Cup match days and this was reflected by Home Office figures. Of those, one in four offenders was under the influence of alcohol. Together plans are being made to tackle the issue proactively and keep victims safe at this time.
The St Helens IDVA and Merseyside police are currently working towards a campaign that will not only highlight the need for specialist detectives but also the need for specialist support for the victims of an Independent nature.
Part of the campaign is to raise awareness as to where victims can obtain specialist support and advice but also tackling the issue practically and working responsibly throughout the Domestic violence enforcement campaign.
