Being Warrington Guardian's Charity of the year gave our little charity a voice!!
9th Feb 2010
Nearly 200 young people who ran away from home last year will have benefited from the support of a Warrington charity.
The Relationships Centre, Warrington Guardian's charity of the year, has helped 191 families in the town in the last 12 months. The charity, based in the Gateway on Sankey Street, offers support to runaways and their families through its Talk Don't Walk project, just one of many serviceson offer.
This multi-agency initiative raises awareness of the issue and supports those affected by finding alternatives and rebuilding communication channels within families.
In 2009 the charity helped to save statutory agencies, hundreds of thousands of pounds of resources by providing mediation sessions in a non-judgemental environment. As it's time as the Guardian's charity of the year comes to an end, Pam Arnold, co-founder, said that the Guardian's coverage has helped The Relationships Centre offer more support to the community.
She said: "There are so many charities in Warrington that, like ours, are small, local and meet specific needs.
"This support has helped us to get our message across in a way that we could never have dreamed of . It made such a huge difference as the newspaper group, gave our gave our little charity the opportunity to have a voice and a presence for the whole year."
