Talk dont Walk – a life changing project....
14th Feb 2012
Talk Don’t Walk’s success over the past 8 years has been measured not just in financial savings but more importantly in the lasting changes it has brought to the young people, their families and the Warrington community. The project has demonstrated how families can achieve intergenerational change as well as young people becoming more aware of the dangers of running away and seeking positive alternative responses to managing their situation.
As we approach the end of the Talk Dont Walk project in March 2012, we are reflecting on all the support and intervention which has been offered to young people and their families across Warrington. The project offers a brief intervention with the young person including personal safety and communication sessions which can also include parents and young people attending family mediation, The Talk Dont Walk project has given positive hope for families who may have fallen apart, without the intervention of Talk dont Walk.
Since 2004, every year we have directly helped over 200 young people and their families with relationship and personal problems which have caused the young person to run away from the family home and offer strategies and coping mechanisms to help them rebuild their relationships for the future.
We encourage the young people to talk about their problems with loved ones and to get support in doing this with somebody independent they can trust. Together with families themselves, we have reconnected and rebuilt relationships and family life.
Talk dont Walk has ensured that these young people werent alone and were given the opportunity to share their problems, getting the help and support they needed, the first step to a brighter, safer future.
