Get support in ... St Helens

The St Helens Independent Domestic Violence Advocacy (IDVA) project is the newest addition to The Relationships Centre in targeting the causes of abuse and recognising abusive relationships as an ongoing issue.

In the St Helens area we offer a specialist service to victims of domestic violence, striving to encourage victims to report and working towards reducing domestic homicide. Our expertise has recently been recognised and the service was awarded a Total Care For Victims award in conjunction with Merseyside Police.

The Service has two Independent Domestic Violence Advocates (IDVA's) who are based in the Family Crime Investigation Unit and who work in partnership with the Safer Communities team and local agencies. We have recently been successful in securing funding until 2011, regularly deliver specialist training programmes and aspire to develop future services including programmes for Young people affected by unhealthy relationships in the Borough.

What can we do for you?

Sally was referred by the Police. She reported texts that her partner had sent, threatening to gain entry to her property and remove her child without her knowledge. He had been violent to her in the past but she had never called the police. The IDVA advised Sally about injunctions and keeping a diary of contact with her ex-partner.

The IDVA requested the Police put a marker on the property and made a referral to secure her home further and also to solicitors to help put an injunction in place. Furthermore, a request was made to the Police by the IDVA for a critical marker to be placed on her property to make her feel more secure. Sally continues to access support....
